Moving F.O. 219.22 Forward

Advocating for underwater spearfishing in Michigan is a unique challenge. The NRC and DNR are not very familiar with this method. Which is understandable due to the low number of anglers that participate. During this temporary data collection season that has been established, our unique method of harvest will be analyzed by the biologist at the DNR to give future recommendations to the NRC. This will potentially add more waters and new species in 2025.

DNR | Fisheries Division

The Fisheries Division of the DNR is the number one advisor to the NRC. The NRC does not move anything forward without receiving their input. The Fisheries Division gives recommendations to the NRC based on input from their biologist staff, data from a variety of surveys and studies, fishing associations, citizen advisory groups and public input. All these are factors for the Fisheries Division to consider before making recommendations to the NRC.
